Labor Part III (Transition and Pushing 7:00-10:00 PM
This time lapse video was posted on Instagram and shows the live birth of my second child. The doula Kai Shateen is seen supporting myself, the child, the hospital staff and my husband as we work together on this final stage of labor to bring a new life into the world. It was important for me to show this mostly private moment as a work site, as an art work, as an embodiment of the word labor.
Keeping Time 2017-2022
This ongoing painting and performance practice documents the emotional, domestic and reproductive labor of motherhood starting in 2017. The project continues to expand with the family which added a second child in 2019. With infographics changing shape and finding new ways to quantify the often invisible labor of parenting.
